The Equotee Story
The Equotee Story
Equotee’s journey began when the founder’s close friend grappled with navigating co-ownership within her family in West Auckland during a period of historically low interest rates. Witnessing the complexities and challenges her friend faced in managing co-ownership with siblings and parents sparked a realisation about the need for a comprehensive solution in this domain.
But the home which was eventually co-owned needed a lot of work. And through this process, it was clear that recording and managing co-ownership brought with it many frustrations such as sharing of costs, recording how each of their equity shares in the home may change. The pain does not outweigh the benefit however given the ever-changing goal posts of home ownership for first home buyers.
While chatting with a fellow traveller heading to the UN Climate Change Convention, our conversation shifted to the intertwined issues of housing affordability and climate change. The discussion hit home, making me realize that, even if folks don't fully grasp climate equity, they do comprehend the concrete effects of climate change on our homes and the lives we lead. This conversation became a profound moment, unveiling the human face of a colossal issue.
This intersection of personal experience and global awareness crystallised into the founding vision of Equotee. The founder recognized the urgent need to bridge the gap between homeownership complexities, climate change impact on housing, and the broader concept of climate equity, it’s clear that housing affordability intersects with a whole host of other challenges, not least of all, the need to adapt to climate change.
Equotee has emerged as a platform designed not just for managing co-ownership but also for reshaping the narrative around housing, equity, and climate resilience.
